Intimately Removed (2021) is an immersive video installation about touch and intimacy. The viewer steps into an enclosed space, cornered by two large eye-level monitors playing mirrored extreme close-up footage, while they listen to the accompanying sounds on noise canceling headphones. The video is a montage of shots showing touch between natural elements (light, wind, water, fire), machines, nature, and humans. This installation creates an experience for the viewer that is overwhelmingly visceral, as they are visually and sonically experiencing touch. Yet, there exists a layer of alienation, since the viewer is alone and very removed from the content of the video. This paradox comments on existence and experience, and the growing human disassociation with both.
